Just when you thought this craze was over, Elle Decoration recently threw a new hashtag out into the insta world – #EDkitchen – wanting to showcase all of our amazing kitchen shelfies for all to see (and for them to feature) and everyone went completely nuts for it which I thought was so great. I’ve always been a big fan of the #shelfie but haven’t really appreciated it until now.
Open shelving was one thing I desperately wanted for my own kitchen. I love the idea of mixing the practical with the decorative – even better when the two are combined!
As you can see mine are fairly minimalist (image above). I’m still trying out the whole maximalist thing but it’s not made it to the kitchen yet…
So for all of you shelfies lovers still out, here are a couple that inspired us when choosing and designing ours;
OBSESSED with these Ikea shelves (also Ikea Kitchens – definitely worth looking at!). We nearly picked these shelves for our kitchen. I love contrast of the black against the white, plus two of these equal 4 shelves! An absolute bargain at £20 each! I’m now thinking I may pick these up for our ‘faux living wall’ in the living room, something to think about… watch this space!
I have always loved these beautiful reclaimed wood shelves. Always a great option in an industrial-style or vintage kitchen. Unfortunately they were too heavy for our plasterboard walls. However they are a great option if you’re on a tight budget (and have brick walls!)
(TIP: hunt down old scaffolding boards – eBay is a great place to start! Cut them to your desired length, a bit of sanding and a few brackets later – you’re good to go!)
If you looked up maximalism in the dictionary you would find this (image below). I am currently loving this style so much. Not so much that I would brave it in my own home just yet, but I applaud those that do. The dark colours and greenery are incredible! Maybe one day!
I’m always keeping an eye out for awesome #shelfies – keep them coming 🙂
